1. Start with the piece, not the stone
Decide what you want to wear — ring, pendant, earrings — and how you want it to feel. The stone follows from there.
2. Set a real budget
Not a range. A number. It anchors every trade-off you will make on the 4Cs.
3. Insist on independent certification
Any diamond above 0.30ct should come with a GIA, IGI or HRD report. No exceptions.
4. See the stone in person
Photos and videos flatter. A diamond you'll wear for a lifetime deserves five minutes across a table under daylight.
5. Ask about resale
An honest jeweller will tell you exactly what they would pay to take the piece back. If they won't, walk away.
6. Buy from someone you can call again
Rings need resizing. Chains break. Clasps fail. Buy where the person who sold it to you will still answer the phone in ten years.
